Ski Jacket Manufacturer for Canadian Brands: What to Know Before You Order

3 min read

Canadian winters are long, wet on the coast and bitterly cold inland. Skiwear sold in Canada has to survive Whistler rain, Banff powder days and a Montreal January, so brands need a manufacturer that understands technical construction, not just sewing. This guide explains what to look for in a ski jacket manufacturer for Canadian brands and how development works with Sunshinecn Apparel.

What Canadian ski jackets need

A ski jacket for the Canadian market is usually built around a few core features:

  • A waterproof and breathable shell fabric, typically a laminated 2-layer or 3-layer fabric with fully taped seams

  • Insulation matched to the region: warm synthetic insulation such as PrimaLoft® or down for the Prairies and Quebec, lighter insulation or shell-only designs for the West Coast

  • Functional details such as a powder skirt, helmet-compatible hood, pit zips, wrist gaiters and a lift-pass pocket

  • Durable water repellent (DWR) finishes and abrasion-resistant panels on shoulders and cuffs

Sunshinecn Apparel is an accredited garment manufacturer by PrimaLoft®, and we source performance shell fabrics from suppliers such as Toray and Pertex, as well as recycled fabric options for brands with sustainability targets.

Development process and timeline

Every project starts with your tech pack, sketches or a reference garment. A typical development schedule looks like this:

  • Tech pack review: 2 to 5 days

  • Sample development: 7 to 15 days

  • Sample revision: 5 to 10 days

  • Bulk production: 30 to 45 days after sample approval

  • Shipping to Canada: sea freight takes several weeks port to port, while air freight takes days

For a Canadian fall and winter launch, we recommend approving samples by late spring so that bulk production and sea freight are complete before the season starts. Remember that Chinese New Year closures in late January or February affect any production planned for the first quarter.

Minimum order quantities

Brands often ask whether they need thousands of units to work with a factory in China. At Sunshinecn Apparel, production is flexible:

  • Sample: 1 piece

  • Small production: 50 to 300 pieces per style, using in-stock fabrics

  • Standard production: 300 to 1,000 pieces

  • Large production: 1,000 pieces and above

The exact MOQ depends on fabric availability, colourways, trims and construction. Using in-stock fabrics and standard zippers is the fastest way to keep quantities low for a first collection.

Shipping and labelling for Canada

We coordinate door-to-door shipping to Canada by sea or air, and prepare export documents for your customs broker. Before production, confirm your labelling requirements: Canada's Textile Labelling Act requires fibre content and dealer identity to be shown in both English and French, and many brands use a CA identification number. We can produce bilingual woven labels, care labels and hangtags to your specification.

Private label and branding

Our private label service covers woven labels, embroidery, heat-transfer prints, reflective prints, branded zipper pullers, silicone badges, hangtags and custom packaging. Branding is confirmed at the sample stage so that bulk production matches your approved sample.
